At Positive Mind Wellness’ Newmarket clinic, we offer personalized, in-person acupuncture services that support the connection between physical, emotional, and overall well-being. Acupuncture is a traditional East Asian medicine practice that uses fine, sterile, single-use needles placed at carefully selected points on the body.

Our approach is nurturing, integrative, and tailored to each client. Rather than looking at one concern in isolation, acupuncture considers the whole person, including physical symptoms, emotional health, daily stress, sleep, digestion, and lifestyle. You may use treatment on its own or alongside other healthcare and wellness services.

Who Can Benefit From Acupuncture?

You might seek acupuncture for many different reasons. Maybe you want support for a particular health concern, or you want to incorporate it into your ongoing wellness routine.

Acupuncture may be a good option if you’re experiencing:

  • Stress, tension, or difficulty relaxing
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Muscle tension and physical discomfort
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Digestive concerns
  • Menstrual or reproductive health concerns
  • Pregnancy-related changes
  • Postpartum recovery and adjustment
  • Fatigue or reduced overall well-being
  • Anxiety-related physical symptoms
  • Pediatric behavioural or digestive concerns

Your health history and needs are unique. Before treatment begins, our Registered Acupuncturist will complete an individualized assessment with you and discuss whether acupuncture is right for you.

See If Acupuncture Is Right for You

Our Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine Services

We offer several traditional East Asian therapeutic modalities, allowing us to personalize treatment to your needs, comfort level, and wellness goals.

Traditional Acupuncture

Traditional acupuncture involves placing very fine needles at selected points on the body. We tailor treatment to your health concerns and may use it to support physical comfort, relaxation, emotional balance, and overall wellness.

Cupping

For cupping, we use specialized cups to create gentle suction on selected areas of your body. We commonly incorporate it into your treatment to address muscular tension, promote relaxation, and support circulation. You may notice temporary circular marks or skin discolouration afterward. Your practitioner will explain what to expect and determine whether cupping is appropriate for you.

Gua Sha

Gua sha uses a smooth-edged therapeutic tool applied to your skin to address stiffness, muscular tension, and areas of discomfort. You may notice temporary redness or skin markings following treatment.

Tui Na

Tui Na is a form of traditional East Asian therapeutic bodywork. We select pressure, stretching, and movement techniques to meet your needs. We can offer tui na on its own or incorporate it into your acupuncture appointment.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a traditional practice that uses controlled warmth near specific acupuncture points. When clinically appropriate, we may incorporate it into a treatment plan to complement acupuncture and support overall wellness.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

We also offer cosmetic acupuncture as part of our medical spa and wellness services. With cosmetic acupuncture, we use fine needles at selected facial and body points to support your skin health, local circulation, and overall well-being through a clinical and holistic lens.

You may choose cosmetic acupuncture to support:

  • Healthy-looking and revitalized skin
  • Facial circulation
  • Relaxation of facial tension
  • Overall skin vitality
  • A holistic addition to an existing skincare routine
  • General relaxation and stress management

Cosmetic acupuncture is different from injectable and surgical cosmetic procedures, and your results may vary. Before treatment, your practitioner will discuss your goals, health history, skincare practices, and realistic expectations.

Pre- and Post-Natal Wellness

Pregnancy and parenthood can affect your physical, mental, and emotional health. We take an inclusive approach to family wellness, supporting you as a mother, father, or partner, as you navigate pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, disrupted sleep, stress, and changing family roles.

We personalize your treatment according to your stage of pregnancy or postpartum recovery. We intend acupuncture to complement, not replace, care from your physician, midwife, fertility specialist, or other regulated healthcare provider.

Pediatric Acupuncture and Wellness

We can also adapt acupuncture and East Asian medicine for children, particularly if your child is experiencing behavioural or digestive concerns.

We adjust pediatric treatment according to your child’s age, needs, and comfort level. Depending on your child, care may include gentle or non-needle techniques. As a parent or legal guardian, you must provide consent and take part in the intake process.

Additional Wellness Treatments

Depending on your needs and treatment goals, we may complement your acupuncture with additional wellness services, including:

  • Red light therapy
  • Ion foot bath services
  • Castor oil treatments
  • Gentle therapeutic bodywork
  • Lifestyle and wellness education

We personalize these adjunctive services, and we don’t intend them to replace medical assessment, diagnosis, or treatment. Your practitioner will explain the purpose and suitability of any recommended treatment before proceeding.

What to Expect During Acupuncture Treatment

Our goal is to create a supportive, comfortable environment where you feel informed and involved in your care.

Your first appointment begins with a conversation about your health history, current concerns, medications, lifestyle, and wellness goals. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns about needles or treatment.

Following your assessment, your practitioner will recommend a treatment plan based on your needs and preferences. Your practitioner will explain the proposed techniques before treatment begins, and you may ask questions or withdraw your consent at any time.

We place very fine, sterile, single-use needles at carefully selected points. Many people experience little or no discomfort, though you may notice temporary sensations such as warmth, heaviness, tingling, or mild tenderness. With your consent, we may also incorporate cupping, gua sha, tui na, moxibustion, or another adjunctive treatment when appropriate.

How many appointments you need, and how often, will depend on your health concerns, goals, and how you respond to treatment. Your practitioner will monitor your progress and adjust your care plan as needed.
